There is a clear distinction between umbilical artery flow velocity waveforms of normal and delayed fetuses. Normal pregnancy umbilical artery blood flow velocity waveform is characterized by diastolic blood flow faster, because the umbilical - placental resistance is small; fetal growth retardation diastolic blood flow slowed down. Abnormal blood flow velocity waveform is mainly associated with abnormal flow velocity of placental villi third arterial blood flow that is umbilical-placental circulation resistance.
