谭荣初,1961年出生,浙江嵊州人,高级工艺美术师,绍兴市工艺美术大师。1978年,谭荣初闯入雕塑艺术领域,迄今己有36年。从1995年起,专业从事根雕创作。在近20年中,创作了千余件根雕作品。谭荣初的根雕作品题材广泛,表现手法多样,注重根据根材的天然形姿构思作品,只在关健部位适当施以雕艺,在雕与不雕之间巧妙融合,达到“藏魂在天然,纳灵于神工”的艺术境界。2006年,谭荣初创作的根雕《悟》获第六届杭州国际民间手工艺品
