At the end of the 12th and the beginning of the 13th century,the Mongolian tribes in the north became strong andin the year 1206,a Mongolian nation was formed under the leadership of Ghenjis Khan after unifying among the tribes.They conquered the Jin,West Liao,and West Xia nationalities and in 1260,Ghenjis Khan’s grandson,Koblai Khan,succeeded as the great ruler(the Khan)with the capital established in Kaipin(Cyandu).In 1271,they moved the capitalto Yenching,the present location of Beijing,and started to be called the Yuan Dynasty.The capital of Southern SongDynasty,Lin An,fell in 1276 and the imperial court of Song came to an end by the year 1279,and thence China wasunified in the Yuan Dynasty with a territory larger than ever before.
