The main biological effect of growth hormone (GH) is to promote growth. It is known that at least some of these effects are not directly caused by GH but are regulated by another factor. The chemical nature and properties of this factor have been clarified through studies of about 30 years, especially about 10 years. These factors are currently thought to be somatomedin (SM). SM’s study started in 1957 with Salmon et al. They first observed a significant increase in cartilage ingestion of sulphate in hypophysectomized rats and no effect of in vitro incubation of cartilage with GH. Since only normal and GH-treated pituitary gland serum did, GH-untreated pituitary rat serum did not stimulate sulphate binding to cartilage, and Salmon et al. Identified the effect of GH on cartilage sulphation It is regulated by the “sulfation factor”. Daughaday found
