一、土是根土是棉花根系吸收水分、养分,生长发育的场所。土壤条件适宜与否,对棉花个体发育和增产潜力影响很大。棉花是深根作物,主根竟可深入土层2—3米,侧根可达1米左右,其根系多分布在30厘米左右的耕作层内。因此,它需要深厚平整,肥沃疏松,水分适宜的棉田。在一些贫瘠的土壤和浅耕的棉地,往往可以看到侧根生长过浅,局限于犁底层之上,主根碰到坚实的犁底层被迫卷曲,骤然变细的现象。据我们一九七八年调查,棉地深耕6寸的比深耕3寸的单株大型侧根数多3.9根。据原我省彭泽棉花试验站从深耕0.6尺、0.8尺、1.6尺、2.4尺的棉田中测定棉根生长情况,随着耕作的加深,主根增长,增粗,侧根增多,增长(见表一)。棉花只有深厚肥沃的土壤,才有良好的根系,从而吸收较多的肥水,增强抗旱能力,促进生长发育。瑞昌县横立山公社,
