杨树是我国重要造林树种,具有生长快,用途广,树形美观适应性强的特点,是用材林、防护林以及四旁植树的好树种。但是,杨树品种很多,特性各异,什么品种适宜盐碱地生长,是盐碱地造林中值得注意的问题。我县杨家园大队在天津地区农科所的协助下,从1966年开始,结合生产进行了盐碱地杨树优良品种的选育工作,八年来已从32个杨树品种的无性系中培育和选择出小×美12、小×美21和23、合作杨、白城杨、小青×钻、河小×旱+美、小×美+榆、波兰杂种194等较适合盐碱地栽培的8个优良品种。这8个杨树种、杂种的主要优点是:1.速生:1965年秋在土壤含盐量0~20厘米为0.6753%,20~50厘米为0.5300%,50~100厘米为0.2530%的盐碱地上,扦插的小×美×12,8年生平均高13.12米,平均胸径12.4
