清代吴敬梓(1701—1754)所著的《儒林外史》,是一部杰出的讽刺小说。它的艺术成就,鲁迅在《中国小说史略》中有确切的评论:“……既多据自所闻见,而笔又足以达之,故能烛幽索隐,物无遁形,凡官师,儒者,名士,山人,间亦有市井细民,皆现身纸上,声态并作,使彼世相,如在目前,……”但对书中独具特色的一个组成部分——第四十三回《野羊塘将军大战,歌舞地酋长劫营》及其前奏《家人苗疆报信息》(第四十二回)和余声《汤总镇成功归故乡》(第四十四回),却为一些学者给予不公正的评价:“《儒林外史》所描写的固然大部分是思想感情为作者所理解的人,然而也有一部分是作者所不熟悉或者不理解
The “Scholars” written by Wu Jingzi (1701-1754) in Qing Dynasty is an outstanding satirical novel.
