在陕西的众多民办高校中,公共艺术教育已经开展了一段时间,大多数民办高校都成立了艺术教育委员会、公共艺术中心,部分民办高校由于办学规模不大只成立了公共艺术教研室,但是都相继开展了全校的公共艺术教育,在培养学生艺术修养和综合素质方面进行了有效的探索和实践。但是由于民办学校的特殊办学模式和经费开支模式,以及部分高校领导对公共艺术教育的偏见和轻视,使得民办高校公共艺术教育的现状存在较大的问题,整体形势并不乐观。
