Field geologists are very aware of erosion because of the possibility of outcrops that may or may not have disappeared due to erosion. Many geomorphology textbooks provide an exhaustive description of erosion and its effects on surface modeling. It is good practice for field geologists to review these books on a regular basis to keep abreast of the principles in this area. However, in addition to these principles, field geologists should be familiar with the details and characteristics of erosion near their work area at the beginning of a field work. Although the general principles of geomorphology should not be overlooked, the specific resistance to erosion of rocks and formations has direct and realistic implications
