Health manpower is an important part of the national health system and an essential element of health resources. Studying the supply and demand of health workforce and the balance between them is the core of the health workforce planning. Maintaining a balance between supply and demand for health workers can make full use of human resources for health, reduce waste, and produce optimal social and economic benefits. In the late 1940s, under the guidance of WHO, countries in the world increasingly paid attention to research on the supply and demand of health workforce and provided assistance for health decision-making. I. Quantity, distribution and supply of health workforce Over the past 40 years, health workers in most countries in the world
