Since the advent of Edward Albi’s play Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, it has drawn much attention. Many scholars and critics discuss it from different aspects. By applying the binary opposition theory in structuralism to a deep structural analysis of the play, we can find the opposition between rationality and irrationality in the play, the opposition between reality and fantasy, and the antagonism between the two sexes. Through the analysis of these two groups of binary oppositions, we can find out the author’s concern and thinking about the living condition and the status of women in the society at that time.
