中国核学会第一次全国代表大会和原子能科学技术如何为四化做出更大贡献试论会于一九八○年二月二十二日至二十八日在北京召开。出席这次大会的代表有为我国原子能科学技术作出过卓越贡献的老一辈科学家,有成为当前科技战线上骨干力量的中年科学家,也有正在茁壮成长的青年科技工作者,还有热心于原子能事业的领导干部和管理人员,共有代表三百六十名。这是我国原子能科学技术界一次空前的盛会。中国核学会的正式成立,标志着我国核科学的兴旺发达,进入了一个新的历史发展阶段。
