全国同胞们:全美国的心思和希望——事实上整个文明世界的心思和希望——今天晚上都集中在密苏里号军舰上。在这停泊于东京港口的一小块美国领土上,日本人刚刚正式放下武器,签署无条件投降。四年前,整个文明世界的心思与恐惧集中在美国另一块土地上——珍珠港。那里曾发生对文明巨大的威胁,现在已经清除了。从那里通到东京的是一条漫长的、洒满鲜血的道路。我们不会忘记珍珠港。日本军国主义者也不会忘记美国军舰密苏里号。
My fellow countrymen: The thoughts and hopes of the entire United States - in fact, the mind and hope of the entire civilized world - are tonight focused on Missouri warships. On a small piece of U.S. territory parked at the port of Tokyo, the Japanese have just officially laid down their arms and signed an unconditional surrender. Four years ago, the minds and fears of the entire civilized world were concentrated in another part of the United States, Pearl Harbor. The great threat to civilization there has now been cleared. From there to Tokyo is a long, blood-filled path. We will not forget Pearl Harbor. Japanese militarists will not forget the U.S.Ship Missouri.
