嫁接是油桐无性繁殖的主要方法,但目前嫁接所形成的树体结构,多数为“头年一根竿,二年一把伞”的莲蓬型,由于油桐一般三年始果,五年后进入盛果期,象这种树体结构,养分无效消耗大,挂果体积小,是达不到丰产目的的。嫁接树体结构不良,是生理特征所致,还是与接穗的位置效应有关?为探索这一问题,我们从1982年开始,进行了油桐接穗位置效应与树体结构关系的研究。
