In the history of Turkish architecture in the twentieth century, we witnessed countless attempts to respond to East / West duality in its interpretation and expression of a “modern” identity. Architects and academics have wavering in these endeavors, one to “elevate” their Western identity and the other to create a “real” Anatolian / Turkish modernity. The former comprehends the modernity as an international situation suitable for everyone; the latter thinks that the modernity needs to be integrated and absorbed according to the specific country conditions. In the 21st century, these attitudes no longer matter: identity problems no longer exist
