In the northern Great Huzhou (Michigan, USA), hibernating cuttings are often harvested in the mid-winters in order to build hybrid poplar plantations and stored for a few months in low-temperature shelters or cold rooms spring. However, little is known about the effects of harvest time or storage temperature on cuttings after cuttings. Farmer’s studies of Populus deltoides Marsh and Cembal on Populus alba L. demonstrated that the shoots harvested in late winter were better than those harvested in early winter. Smith and Valerian found that using a constant temperature or varying temperature treatment had a significant effect on the germination and rooting of Populus × ’Robusta’ schneid cuttings. We tested cuttings of four clonal Poplar clones to assess the effects of harvest time and storage temperature on post-cutting root and shoot development.
