In May 1994, Dr. Manfred Steinigen, director of the Munich Institute of Pharmacopoeia Research in Germany, published an article in an influential medical journal, pointing out that some proprietary Chinese medicines with “miraculous efficacy” contain “high doses of dexamethasone and indomethacin”.
