慈济功德会在台湾几乎家晓户知,而且其名声已超越岛内,远播海外。它的成名不在于弘法,而在于慈济,即以佛教的大慈大悲之心,弘济受苦受难的贫困大众,造福社会,并及于世界,以积累功德,达到佛教的理想胜境。所以慈济功德会虽是台湾佛教著名的四大团体之一,却不同于其它团体。慈济功德会(以下称“慈济会”)不拥有众多的禅林,没有众多的出家僧尼,也没有频繁的开坛说法,但却以其慈善、医疗、教育、文化四大志业的成就,显示了其独具的特色。遍布各地慈济会的功能胜过了许多禅林的功能,遍布各地的慈济会员多过了许多禅林的僧侣,而其慈济的事业和行为更使“众恶莫
Tzu Chi will be known to almost every household in Taiwan, and its reputation has surpassed the island and has been widely broadcast overseas. Its fame does not lie in the preaching of Dharma but in Tzu Chi, that is, benefiting the poor and afflicted poor through Buddhism’s great cause of compassion, benefiting society and the world in order to accumulate merit and attain the Buddhist ideal.
