In recent years, the 19th-century slogan “Grand Contest” has once again risen in the international energy field. However, Western scholars often choose a few cases to prove that the main reason for the rising oil price is the competition between China and India and the oilfield sale. Based on the empirical research on China-India competition, cooperation and independent purchase, this paper argues that there are not only a few cases of competition and cooperation between the two sides but also the same number of the two types of transactions. In contrast, the largest number of parallel independent China-India energy diplomacy cases . Energy companies in both China and India basically follow the rules of the market and the rules of the game, and most energy operations do not belong to the outdated share of oil “big game.”
