Both anthropology and autobiographical literature are, at a deeper level, a rediscovery and recognition of self. This usually appears in the field of anthropology as an investigation of strange ethnic groups, while in the literature of autobiography, it digs itself deeply. Both have a perfect coincidence with Michelle Reis, a literary and anthropologist, and the “ghost of Africa” involved in the essay is the product of a mixture of two practices. In his study of Africa, Leris built the integration of anthropological notes and autobiographical writing in the same text. In his own definition, what he pursued was a “whole journal.”
