Objective To study the differences of implicit self-esteem and explicit self-esteem among those with depression and those with depression. Methods Thirty depressive patients and 30 healthy individuals were selected to measure their explicit self-esteem by Rosenberg’s self-esteem scale. Implicit self-esteem was measured by implicit association test (IAT), and the results of two groups were compared. Results The level of explicit self-esteem in depression group was significantly lower than that in rehabilitation group. The level of implicit self-esteem in depression group was not significantly different from that in rehabilitation group. The self-esteem in depression group was lower than that in implicit self-esteem. Explicit self-esteem has a higher tendency than implicit self-esteem. Conclusions The level of explicit self-esteem in depression group is lower than that in rehabilitation group, and there is no significant difference in implicit self-esteem. There are different combinations of implicit self-esteem and explicit self-esteem in depression group and rehabilitation group.
