“书”这一形式,几千年以来承载了人们对客观知识和经验以及内在情感和想象的无限探索,通常象征着某种纵然无法印证却能瞬间凝固的真理或教条。从这一点上看,“艺术家之书”的概念或许能赋予书一种活泼的反叛气质。这种气质源于“艺术家之书”首先是艺术家天马行空的创作,其次归因书本的形状和材料上的优势,形式自由(文字、绘画、拼贴等)、信息量大、便于携带和传播、相对于大幅的昂贵的艺术品更易于获得和欣赏、突破艺术品受制于画廊和美术馆展示的局限等等因素。而空白空间的“做一本书”便是以24位国际当代艺术家的作品呈现在这一命题之下的包容性和多元趣味。
