Australia has decided to establish a science council directly under the control of Prime Minister Bob Hawke to coordinate Australian science policy. The Council will include representatives from business, industry and science, whose vice-president will be Mr. Barry Jones, Minister of Science. Professor Ralph Stiete, Dean of the Graduate School of Biological Sciences at the Australian National University in Canberra, will assume the new role of “Chief Scientist” advising the PM and Minister of Science.
