海湾战争结束后,美国把发展中国家拥有战术导弹视为对它的严重威胁,在重点发展战区反导弹系统的同时,加紧了机载激光反导弹武器的研制。美国空军决定采纳波音等三家公司共同提出的方案,研制“机载激光器”反导弹系统,要求在 2002年制造出一架样机进行试验;2005年开始生产,到2006年制造出 3架实用型飞机,形成初步作战能力;2008年共装备7架飞机,达到全面作战能力。
After the Gulf War ended, the United States regarded developing countries possessing tactical missiles as a serious threat to them. While focusing on the development of the theater anti-missile system, the United States has stepped up the development of its airborne laser anti-missile weapons. The U.S. Air Force decided to adopt a common solution proposed by three companies, including Boeing, to develop an “airborne laser” anti-missile system that will require the manufacture of a prototype in 2002 for testing. Production will begin in 2005 and by 2006 will produce 3 practical Aircraft, forming a preliminary combat capability; 2008 a total of 7 aircraft, to achieve full operational capability.
