造像,又作造象。古时为生人、亡人或己身祈福,多有于僧寺或崖壁间镌石成佛像,亦有以金属、木雕铸造佛像者,称之为造像。两汉之际,佛教传入中国,经过长时间演变,与中国文化互为融合。佛教造像随教义一起被引入中国,佛像形象而直观,是佛教徒崇敬礼拜的对象,有利于促进佛教教义的传播与发展。与此同时,造像艺术又对中国的文化艺术发展产生了深远影响。
