鼓吹乐是以打击乐器、吹奏乐器等以合奏形式为主的乐种,在中国古代音乐史上占有非常重要的学术地位。但是,对于鼓吹乐到底出自何时,来自何方,音乐理论界一直争论不休。据大量鼓吹乐文献资料、吹打乐音乐形式及其存留现实的山西乐户,可以判断,汉魏北朝时期的古代山西晋西北不仅是多民族文化繁衍地区,亦为中国鼓吹乐的一个不可或缺的艺术策源地。
