In This Article Introduction Traditionally, a semiconductor company should control all aspects of IC manufacturing from design to production. Today, however, the immense cost of building a new “fab” and the multi-functionalization of SOCs have forced most semiconductor companies to choose technology-free business models. To this end, a number of chip foundries and a large number of professional IP designers came into being. This article focuses on the operation of a non-craft business model and the role of a professional IP designer. This article will be divided into 8 paragraphs. First, we will explain why Why Fabless? Second, describe several non-craft business model. Then a brief overview of IP and IP deals with professional IP designers and how to choose IP partners.
