视听说课程对英语学习者的视听说能力、交际能力、英语文化能力和学习兴趣的同步提高有着其他课程无法比拟的优势。然而,目前很多高校并没有为非英语专业大学生开设或者没有将这门课程作为必修课程开设,从而影响了学生上述能力的提高。本研究选定了大学入学综合英语成绩及听说成绩基本接近的两组研究对象。一组入校后开设了视听说课程,另一对照组未开设此课程。形成性评估和终结性评估的研究数据和结果表明,开设视听说课程组的听说成绩的提高率比对照组的提高率高出很多,而且除了听说能力的促进外,该课程对研究对象的文化能力、跨文化交际能力、学习兴趣和自信心等方面的提高也表现出了很大的促进作用。本研究旨在为很多高校在自主选择开设视听说课程时的决策提供科学依据,并强调了将此课程作为必修课程为非英语专业大学生开设的重要性,同时指出决定该课程成功与否的几个重要因素。
