《人面桃花》是欧阳予倩老师编写,在全国解放以后亲自导演的一个京剧;也是他最后排练的一个京剧。他自己说过,这是他从事戏剧事业四十多年来投入精力最大,花费时间最长的一次艺术创作实践。他把这次排演看成一次对京剧表演艺术传统的发展革新进行深刻探讨的创作实践。他对我们说:
Peach Blossom is a Peking opera written by Ouyang Yuqian and personally directed after the liberation of the People’s Republic of China. It is also a Peking opera that he finally rehearsed. He himself said that this is an art practice that he has spent the most time and energy on in the 40 years of his career in theater. He regarded this rehearsal as a creative practice of deeply exploring the development and innovation of the traditional performing arts of Beijing Opera. He told us:
