水麻黄是我省沿海沙荒营造防护林的主要树种,它原产于澳洲和太平洋群岛,有不少种类,引种到我省后,又因天然杂交,产生变异,类型更加复杂,具体分类尚有待进一步研究鉴别。根据各地按木麻黄小枝长度来区分类型的习惯,为方便介绍起见,这里暂时也把木麻黄分为短枝、中枝和长枝三个类型。目前我省沿海栽植的木麻黄树,大部分是短枝木麻黄。
