Regarding the design concept of the new Carper store in Lyon, France, Makkirk & Bey’s firm proposed the original function of returning to shoes: walking. As the most primitive way of moving in the space, the walk uses the spatial structure of its movement track and walking place to interpret the interior design. This trajectory, either forward, upward, or downward, is particularly evident in the red contour of stairs, walls and floors. These lines form the red frame of the interior space, creating the Camper boutiques that walk like a microcosm. Throughout the design process of the store, the designers applied the study of “moving essence” based on the “photo record” of American photographer E. Muybridge and applied it to this Space design. He used the help of people to climb the stairs to study how our body adapts to the inherent environment. The staircase in this project is like a typical representative of the built-in environment described above, extending the space up and down to create more space for people to walk, sit and lean
