周信芳(1895—1975)名士楚,艺名麒麟童,浙江慈溪人。出生演员家庭。7岁即以“七龄童”艺名开始演出。五四运动前后受新文化思想影响,曾演出《宋教仁》等新戏,抨击袁世凯等。长期在上海演出,与王鸿寿、汪笑侬等协作,编演、移植了许多剧目。艺术上勇于革新创造,反对墨守陈规;博采孙菊仙、谭鑫培、汪桂芬诸家之长,借鉴花旦、花脸的表演,融会贯通,加以变化.形成自己独特的艺术风格,世称“麒麟派”。他主张表演要真实,着重念白和做功,反对唱腔但求悦耳而不顾哀乐。他善于通过外部动作表达人物
