綜合補給船在國外稱「多種物品航行補給船」,又稱「一次補給船」。它是六十年代初發展起來的一種新型補給船。起初只有美國、原蘇聯等國具有遠洋作戰使命的海軍才發展這類船,後來這類船在法國、荷蘭、意大利、日本等區域性海軍中也紛紛發展起來。一向認為燃油和彈藥這兩種危險品不能同時裝在一艘補給船上的英國,在馬島戰争之後也打破了慣例,於1985年開始建造綜合補給船,後來,象阿根廷、巴西、智利、希臘、土耳其、巴基斯坦等國海軍,也對綜合補給船表現出很大的興趣。有關國家海軍發展綜合補給船情况
