2002年1月16日早上8点,舟曲县九二三林场院内哀乐低回,花圈簇拥,挽幛四布,白花朵朵。舟曲县四大班子领导和各界群众400多人怀着沉痛的心情深切悼念在九二三林场“1·11”山林火灾扑救中殉职的原林场副场长孙元信。在追悼会上,不少人痛哭失声,泪水横溢,大家都为失去这样一个好党员、好干部而悲痛。忠于职守无所畏惧2002年1月11日夜9时30分左右,正在值班的孙元信接到林场所属曲瓦营林站打来的火情报警电话。他一面打电话和林场主要领导商议,并向县林业局防火办汇报,一面召集林场院内现有管理人员驱车赶赴50公里以外的火灾现场。到达现场后,他立即组织召开场、乡、村扑火联席会议,对扑火工作做了详细的部署安排。早上7点30分,救火小组前往火灾现场。作为总指挥的孙元信走在队伍的最前列。经过5个多小时的连续奋战,地面明火已基本扑灭,只剩林中腐殖层中零星的暗火在随风而动。孙元信一边指挥大家熄火,一边脱下衣服包冰灭火。由于连夜苦战,劳累过度,当他又一次搬冰时,不慎失足滑落入千米冰川,为保护国家森林资源献出了自己年轻而宝贵的生命。
