Atrial natriuretic peptide (atrial natriuretic peptide, ANP) is a newly discovered cardiac hormone that is closely related to the homeostasis such as body fluids, electrolytes and blood volume. It can promote urinary sodium excretion and diuresis, and can increase renal blood flow, glomerular filtration rate, inhibit the secretion of angiotensin Ⅱ and promote vasodilatation, and inhibit the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system. ANP is thought to be a hormone that causes the release of atrial myocytes as a result of increased blood volume and atrial expansion. Significant physiological changes occurred in the body during pregnancy, of which the most significant changes in the kidneys and cardiovascular system. Even in the first trimester of pregnancy that cardiac output, renal blood flow and glomerular filtration rate increased.
