综观历届书市和订货会,可以看出,它们早已从单一销售功能的商业行为演变为功能多元化的展示行为,书市和订货会几乎都成了读书人的节日、出版人的盛会。展示功能的日益强化,是由图书市场改革发展态势决定的。在经销包退、寄销制的基础上形成的出版社新书主发制,已经在极大程度上代替了销售商传统的订货手段。此外,高科技的应用,网上信息发布的快捷便利,图书流通中的许多制约越来越多地得到克服,大型订货会的订货功能自然逐步削弱。相反,书市作为展示、交流,作为出版界业内同道切磋并借此了解书业动态与走向的窗口,它的功能不断地多元化。正是在这种功能多元化的发展态势面前,我们编辑的工作线在不断地延长,工作对象的范围在不断地扩大,图书市场的这一变革无疑给现代编辑提出了更高的要求。
