秀洲位于浙江省杭嘉湖平原,东邻上海,西靠杭州,南濒杭州湾,北接苏州,是上海经济区的黄金腹地,面积542平方公里,总人口38万,耕地面积44万亩。区域内地势平坦,河流纵横,土地肥沃,气候温和,素有“鱼米之乡、丝绸之府”的美誉,历来以盛产粮食、油料、水果、茧丝、畜禽、淡水鱼等农产品而著称。2008年秀洲区实现生产总值150.2亿元,比上年增长10.5%。按户籍人口计算,人均GDP达8804美元,增长9.0%,列全市第一。
Xiuzhou is located in Hangzhou-Jiaxing-Huzhou Plain in Zhejiang Province. It is adjacent to Shanghai in the east, Hangzhou in the west, Hangzhou Bay in the south, and Suzhou in the north. It is a gold hinterland of Shanghai Economic Zone with an area of 542 square kilometers and a total population of 380,000 and 440000 acres of arable land. The area is characterized by flat terrain, fertile land, and mild climate. It has always been known as “the land of fish and rice and the house of silk”. It has always been famous for its agricultural products such as grain, oilseeds, fruits, cocoon silk, livestock and poultry, freshwater fish and so on. Xiuzhou District achieved a GDP of 15.02 billion yuan in 2008, an increase of 10.5% over the previous year. According to the hukou population, the per capita GDP reached 8,804 U.S. dollars, up 9.0%, ranking the first in the whole city.
