The first steelmaking plant in WISCO was a flat-rolled steelmaking plant put into operation in the 1950s. Since it was put into operation in 1959, it has transformed several existing 500t open-hearth furnaces, of which five are top-blown oxygen furnaces and one is a heavy oil hearth furnace. In the early 1980s, in order to improve the blast furnace smelting capacity, blast furnace oxygen blowing strengthened smelting process, shortening the smelting time and increase the steel output. In 1984, the steel output exceeded 2 million tons for the first time. In 1988, it produced 2.602 million tons of steel, surpassing the design capacity and smelting varieties have grown to 152 for 19 human beings. However, with the increase of oxygen and oxygen supply intensity, the flue gas emission concentration is 10-15 times higher than that without blowing oxygen and the dust concentration in the exhaust gas is 6-8 g / m3. Up to 13g / m_3, from the 100m high chimney directly into the atmosphere, 5 ~ 10μm red dust falling to the three towns in Wuhan, pollute the environment. And emissions of 63% iron oxide red dust, filled the steel mill over.
