The efficacy of probiotics has been recognized for more than one hundred years and has been applied to poultry production for nearly 50 years. In 1989, Fuller defined probiotics as “a class of living microorganisms that improve the gut microbiota in host animals by direct feeding.” At present, probiotics have been widely used in poultry production. Since 2006, the EU banned the use of antibiotic growth promoters and brought more far-reaching opportunities to probiotics. The microecological products added to feed mainly contain a small amount of microorganisms commonly found in the gastrointestinal tract, including non-Bacillus, Bacillus, Fungus or Yeast, and products composed of these microorganisms as a single strain or as multiple strains. In this paper, the mode of action of probiotics were reviewed, for your reference.
