Objective To understand the causes and characteristics of death among children under 15 in Yuhang District of Hangzhou City during the five-year period from 2008 to 2012, and provide scientific basis for formulating corresponding preventive measures. Methods According to the data of death monitoring of chronic diseases monitoring information system from 2008 to 2012 in Yuhang District, the ICD-10 international disease codes were used for classification. The data of DeathReg 2005 software and SPSS 19.0 software were used for retrospective analysis. Results The standardized mortality rates of children under 15 in Yuhang District from 2008 to 2012 were 46.02 / 100,000, 44.32 / 100,000, 44.66 / 100,000, 39.96 / 100,000, 42.08 / 100,000, and those under 15 years old respectively As the age decreased, the highest in the 0-year-old group was 429.10 / 100000 and the lowest in the 10-14 years old was 15.89 / 100000. Five-year mortality rate, no significant difference between male and female child mortality rates. Infants younger than 1 year old mainly suffer from congenital diseases and perinatal causes (accounting for 60.00% of the total number of infant deaths), and external causes of injury and poisoning of children over 1 year old (hereinafter referred to as accidental injuries) 46.00% of the number of child deaths), followed by cancer, especially leukemia accounted for 62.50% of children’s tumors. Conclusions Neonatal deaths are the leading cause of death among infants less than 1 year of age, so it is important to have premarital exams, regular antenatal exams and prenatal diagnosis; accidents caused by accidental injuries are the leading cause of death among children over the age of 1 and therefore prevent accidental injuries Effectively reduce child mortality, in addition to children’s tumors can not be ignored.
