在一般艺术理论著作中,大都会言及艺术的功能或功用问题。目前学术界较流行的说法是艺术有三大功用:一是审美功用,二是社会组织功用;三是认识功用(某些教科书还有说艺术有四大功用的,如梁玖《艺术概论》中另加了“艺术存在刺激作用”)。学人画作为艺术的一个品种或形式,它同样具备艺术的三大功用或四大功用。今谈其功用主要是讲与其它画种相比有哪些个性或特征。 学人画作为以创作者主体来划分的画种,非常类似工人画、农民画、儿童画,而这类绘画又是相对于专业画家来讲的。从整个的绘画艺术创作者群体中看,以绘画为职业的画家并不比兼职的画家多。从作画的学人这个群体看,虽然算不上职业画家,在一定程度上已经具备了
In the works of general art theory, most of the world speaks of the function or function of art.
