乔治·普拉特·舒尔茨,曾任美国劳工部长、财政部长。1981—1982年任里根总统新的经济政策顾问委员会主席,1982年6月被任命为国务卿。他是里根总统第一任期内,接替亚历山大·黑格的第二位国务卿。舒尔茨于1983年2月2日至6日初次访华,邓小平会见了他。舒尔茨此行并非礼节性拜访,而是负有重要的外交使命,是进行新探索和谋求扭转两国关系的表现,它最终导致了里根政府“新的现实主义”政策的产生。
George Pratt Schultz, former Minister of Labor and Minister of the Treasury of the United States. 1981-1982 President Reagan’s new Economic Policy Advisory Committee Chairman, in June 1982 was appointed Secretary of State. He was the second Secretary of State to replace Alexander Hague during President Reagan’s first term. Schultz made his first visit to China from February 2 to February 6, 1983, and Deng met with him. Schultz’s visit was not a courtesy visit, but an important diplomatic mission. It was a manifestation of a new exploration and seeking to reverse the relations between the two countries. It eventually led to the Reagan administration’s “new realism” policy.
