位于深圳特区西部的南山城市雕塑院成立于1995年4月。从当时到现在,冠以区名的雕塑院在全国也仅此一例。“山不在高、有仙则名”,钱绍武、包炮、朱成几位雕塑大家应邀前来主事,使这家立足特区、面向全国的雕塑艺术机构刚刚面世便出手不凡。特区人抓住了经济腾飞带动社会全面发展的历史机遇,雕塑家们也在改革开放的前沿阵地找到了发展自己的空间。 庙小办大事。建院伊始,胸有韬略的钱院长就确定了一个宏大的目标:利用深圳的优势,给全国的雕塑艺术家提供发挥才能的舞台。为此,雕塑院的业务负责人在钱、包二先生的引荐下,走访了全国各艺术学院上百位雕塑艺术家的工作室,见识了许多因未得机缘而深藏不露的艺术精品,于是深感办展的必要。经过短时间的筹措,在1996年举办了有老中青三代40多位艺术家、90余件
