如今美国人对藏传佛教的热衷并不是一时兴起,而是一个长期心理积淀自然而然显现的结果。藏传佛教与美国社会的互动,映射了美国民众的精神历程。强大的美国带给了普通民众富足的物质生活,但物质的富足却无法消解人们心理的危机和精神的困惑。而当美国人信仰的基督教所宣扬的来世无法及时消解讲求务实的民众内心的痛苦时,人们就开始将目光投向了其他的价值体系,藏传佛教便是其中的一个。
Nowadays, the enthusiasm of the Americans toward Tibetan Buddhism is not an instant rise, but a result of long-term psychological accumulation that naturally appears. The interaction between Tibetan Buddhism and American society mirrors the spiritual course of American people. The powerful United States has brought ordinary people an abundant material life, but the material affluence can not dispel people’s psychological crisis and spiritual confusion. When the Christianity proclaimed by Americans believes that the afterlife can not promptly dissolve the plight of pragmatic people, people begin to turn their attention to other values. Tibetan Buddhism is one of them.
