由于我国译界,尤其是年轻的一代对宗教名词及宗教用语不太热悉之故,在翻译具有宗教内容的外国作品时,不免产生一些误译;有时审稿者自身也因缺乏这方面的知识,或其它原因,对这方面的误译未予以足够的重视,因而有些误译得不到改正而被发表出来了。近年来随着改革开放的深入,我国教徒的生活得到恢复,并与海外宗教界人士的往来增多,因此外国著作中一些宗教名词与宗教用语译得正确与否,不仅反映我国译界的水平,恐怕还会关及到我国译界的声誉。看来这被忽视的误译,该予以一定的重视了。本文着重谈的是法译汉中一些关于天主教的宗教名词及宗教用语的误译。在谈这方面的误译之前,请先看一个对宗教人名误解的例子。

Before you talk about this mistranslation, look at an example of a misunderstanding of religious names.
