我和我的家人选择了一条显而易见的道路:留下足够的财产,以满足我们所有可以想象的需求,其余的捐给社会,满足它的需要。2006年,我承诺逐步把所持伯克希尔-哈撒韦公司的股票全部捐献给慈善基金会。对此决定,我开心之至。现在,比尔·盖茨、梅琳达·盖茨和我倡议数百位美国富豪承诺将自己至少一半的财富捐给慈善事业。因此,我认为这是一个恰当的时机,重申我的承诺,并解释我作此决定时的所思所想。
My family and I chose the obvious path: leaving enough property to meet all our imaginable needs, and the rest for the community to meet its needs. In 2006, I promised to gradually donate all the Berkshire Hathaway shares I gave to the charity foundation. I am so happy about this decision. Bill Gates, Melinda Gates, and I now propose that hundreds of America’s wealthy commit to donating at least half of their wealth to charity. Therefore, I consider it an opportune time to reaffirm my commitment and to explain what I was thinking when I made that decision.
