1927年复旦影片公司所拍摄的《红楼梦》,在改编上,运用“宽中寻仄”的策略,以刘老老这一人物为贯穿全局的线索,以王熙凤的“三计害三命”以及宝黛之间的爱情悲剧为主要内容,笼括全局,以梦始,以梦终,成功地拍摄了《红楼梦》。此次改编,不可避免地受到了当时电影批评界及红学研究成果的影响。从复旦版《红楼梦》与小说原文对比来看,复旦版《红楼梦》因篇幅关系,对小说进行了删削,并对所用情节也作了修改。复旦版《红楼梦》在对人物塑造上失之于真,有突出人物单一个性之嫌。
