Twelve subjects were reported to have changes in blood sodium, blood osmolality, plasma arginine vasopressin (AVP) concentration, and thirst level during an infusion of 5% NaCl 2 h (0.06 ml / kg per minute). The results showed that the plasma AVP concentration and thirst level were linearly correlated with the blood levels, the regression equations were: plasma AVP concentration (pAVP) -0.24 [plasma osmolality (pOsm) -274] (r = 0.72, P <0.001). Thirstiness (Th) = 0.23 (pOsm-279) (r = 0.62, P <0.001). Both sensitivity and threshold values were lower than those reported in foreign literature, and the threshold of vasopressin release and thirsty osmotic pressure may be related to genetic factors and lifestyle. There may be racial differences in the regulation of AVP secretion and thirsty osmotic pressure.
