韶关站是京广线上粤北地区的一个1等站,目前日办理车6千多辆,其中有调作业为600多辆,现有到发线12股,编组线5股(另外预留4股),87年建起一座简易驼峰,但一直没有开通使用。改造以前,一直采用平面调车,由调机进行推送,人工搬道岔,拧手闸,下铁鞋,作业方式十分落后,特别是实现电气化以后,如果继续拧手闸将严重威胁调车人员的生命安全。1988年6月,由哈尔滨铁路局减速顶调速系统研究中心与铁道部科学研究院、运输及经济研究所,广州铁路分局三方共同协商,对韶关站列车解编系统进行技术改造:启用原有驼峰,在道岔区安装可控顶,在三部位设大可控顶群,所有可控顶完全山微机进行实
