Objective To investigate the clinical effect of kyphoplasty (PKP) on osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures. Methods The group of 25 patients (42 vertebrae), fracture site: T9 ~ L3, of which 24 thoracic vertebra, 18 lumbar. Percutaneous puncture method for balloon dilation of vertebroplasty treatment. The preoperative and postoperative vertebral body height, cobb ’angle were measured and the degree of pain relief assessed by pain visual score. Results After operation, the pain disappeared or almost disappeared in 25 patients. The patients started to get out of bed on the following day or the next day. The cobb ’angle was corrected from 10 ° to 28 ° by an X-ray examination, with an average of 15 °. The vertebral body height recovered. After 3 to 8 months of follow-up, the height of injured vertebrae was not lost, no recurrence of pain and no other complications occurred. Conclusion minimally invasive balloon angioplasty is a safe and effective method for the treatment of osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures.
